Reference Build Guide
Voron printers are built around a set of 3D printed parts that mount the motion system, electronics, and enclosure to the aluminum frame. Getting these parts printed correctly — with the right material, orientation, and infill — is critical for a successful build. This guide covers part counts by model, categories, print settings, sourcing options, and file locations. Last updated: May 2025.

Parts counts are approximate because some STL files are printed in multiple quantities (e.g., 8 identical Z motor mounts). The V2.4 has more parts than the Trident due to the four independent Z axis motors (vs Trident's 3-point system) and the gantry lifting mechanism.
Part Categories
Frame and Gantry
These are the largest and most structurally critical parts. They connect the extrusion frame to the linear rails, bearings, and motion system. Categories include:
- Gantry corners — XY gantry corner blocks that mount linear rail carriages and belt pulleys. These must be printed with high accuracy.
- XY joints — Belt path idler mounts and tensioner bodies for the X and Y axes.
- Z motor mounts — Brackets that hold Z stepper motors to the extrusion frame. High-load parts requiring strong layer adhesion.
- Bed mounts — (Trident) The 3-point kinematic bed mounting system. (V2.4) The Z belt idler mounts at the top of the frame.
Toolhead
The toolhead assembly mounts the hotend, extruder, fans, and probe. Voron uses the Stealthburner toolhead (standard on V2.4, Trident, V0.2). Parts include:
- Stealthburner body — The main toolhead shell (left and right halves, front, PCB mount).
- Extruder body — CW2 (Clockwork 2) or Galileo 2 extruder parts. These must fit precisely.
- Fan ducts — Hotend fan duct and part cooling fan duct/mount.
- Probe mount — Mount for the probe (Klicky, Euclid, or TAP).
- LED mount — Optional but common for status indicator LEDs.
Electronics
These parts mount the control boards, PSU, and auxiliary electronics to the frame:
- Electronics bay brackets — DIN rail mounts, board tray supports, and cable management.
- Raspberry Pi mount — Secures the Pi to the frame or electronics panel.
- Screen mount — For KlipperScreen/mini-screen display mounting (optional).
- PSU bracket — Mounts the power supply unit to the frame.
Enclosure
These parts build the enclosure that surrounds the printer:
- Panel clips — Hold acrylic or polycarbonate panels in place on the extrusion frame.
- Hinges — Door hinges for the front or top panel access.
- Handle — Top frame lifting handle (V2.4).
- Filter mount — For Nevermore or BentoBox carbon filter mounting.
- Corner pieces — Decorative and protective corner covers for the frame.

Print Orientation
Layer lines must be oriented perpendicular to the direction of stress. A part that bears a load parallel to its layer lines will delaminate and fail. Follow the print orientation shown in the official Voron documentation:
- Gantry corners — Print with the corner pointing up. Stress runs along the extrusion axes, perpendicular to layer lines.
- Z motor mounts — Print on their side so layer lines run vertically, resisting the downward force of the motor weight.
- XY joints — Print with the belt path face down. The layer lines run perpendicular to belt tension direction.
- Toolhead parts — Usually printed with the largest flat face on the build plate. Check each STL for the recommended orientation.
- Panel clips — Print on their side so the clip flex direction spans multiple layers.
The Voron GitHub repositories include .3mf files and print orientation images. Do not guess orientation — check the official files.
PIF (Print It Forward) Sourcing
If you do not have a printer capable of printing ABS/ASA parts, the PIF program connects builders with volunteer printers who produce high-quality Voron parts. Key facts:
- Cost — Typically $50-100 for a full set of parts for one model, plus shipping. Prices vary by vendor and material quality.
- Quality standards — PIF vendors must meet strict quality requirements: proper orientation, 5 perimeters, 40-55% gyroid infill, no visible layer issues, correct material (ABS/ASA). Parts are inspected before being sent to recipients.
- Lead time — Usually 1-3 weeks depending on vendor queue and part set size.
- Vendor list — Available on the Voron Discord and PIF website. Check vendor reviews before ordering.
PIF is the recommended option for first-time builders who do not have an ABS-capable printer. The quality is guaranteed and the parts will be printed with optimal settings.
File Sources
All Voron printed part files are open source and available from the official repositories:
- Voron GitHub (github.com/VoronDesign) — Official STL files, STEP files, and Fusion 360 source files for all Voron models. The STLs are release-ready and tested.
- Voron User Mods GitHub (github.com/VoronDesign/VoronUsers) — Community-created modifications and additional parts. Quality varies — check comments and ratings.
- Voron Discord — Links to the latest file versions, PIF vendor lists, and build advice.
File Naming Convention
Voron STL files use a prefix system to indicate sub-assemblies and categories:
- a_ prefix — Frame and structural parts (gantry corners, Z motor mounts, XY joints). These are the most critical parts.
- b_ prefix — Toolhead and extruder parts (Stealthburner body, extruder, fan ducts).
- c_ prefix — Electronics and enclosure parts (Pi mount, screen mount, panel clips, hinges).
This naming system helps organize the files in order of assembly priority. Print a_ parts first (gantry and frame), then b_ parts (toolhead), then c_ parts (electronics and enclosure).
Self-Printing Guidelines
If printing your own parts, follow these guidelines for success:
- Use a heated enclosure at 50-60°C. ABS/ASA requires a warm, draft-free environment.
- Dry your filament thoroughly before printing. ABS absorbs moisture, causing bubbles and weak layers.
- Print at 240-260°C nozzle, 100-110°C bed. Adjust for your specific filament brand.
- Use a brim or mouse ears for large, flat parts to prevent warping.
- Calibrate extrusion multiplier (flow rate) and pressure advance before printing critical parts.
- Print a calibration cube and a Voron test part first to verify settings.
