Step-by-Step Belt Replacement
Step 1: Preparation

Step 2: Remove the Old Belt
For V2.4 and Trident (XY gantry):

Step 3: Clean the Pulleys and Idlers
Before installing the new belt, inspect and clean all pulleys and idler bearings. Belt rubber dust accumulates on pulley teeth and idler flanges, creating uneven wear patterns.

Step 4: Cut and Prepare the New Belt

Step 5: Install the New Belt

- Secure the belt at the toolhead carriage. Insert the belt into the belt clamp, ensuring the teeth engage with the clamp's teeth. Tighten the clamp screws snugly — not tight enough to deform the printed part.
- Slide the motor pulley onto the stepper shaft with the belt routed over it. Do not tighten the grub screws yet. Position the pulley so the belt runs straight between the motor and the first idler — the belt should not rub against the pulley flanges.
- Install the idler pulleys with the belt routed over them. The belt must sit between the idler flanges, not riding on them. Reinstall the E-clips.
- Route the belt through the tensioner assembly. The belt should have some slack at this point — do not tension yet.
Step 6: Tension the Belt
Correct belt tension is critical. Too loose = ghosting and layer shifts. Too tight = accelerated bearing wear, motor overheating, and reduced lifespan of pulleys and idlers.
The Frequency Method (Recommended):
- Fully tension the belt by hand until it feels snug (no obvious sag).
- Pluck the belt like a guitar string between two idlers. The belt span should be in the middle of the longest unsupported section (typically between the stepper pulley and the first idler).

Step 7: Verify Alignment
With the belt tensioned, manually move the toolhead through the full range of motion. The belt should track cleanly in the center of all idler pulleys — not riding up on the flanges. If the belt walks to one side of the idler, the pulley alignment is off.
Check that the belt teeth fully engage with the motor pulley. There should be no more than 0.5mm of the pulley visible above the belt edge. If the belt is too high or too low on the pulley, adjust the motor position or the pulley height on the motor shaft.
Run the axis at 50mm/s and listen for any rubbing, squeaking, or clicking. A clicking sound at the toolhead means the belt is not fully seated in the clamp and the teeth are slipping under load — re-crimp or re-clamp immediately.

If the new belt is wearing on one edge after a few days, check for a misaligned idler or a gantry that isn't square. A skewed gantry puts torque load on the belt, wearing the edge.
