Two of the most popular Voron CoreXY builds — the V2.4 and the Trident. They share many components but differ in key areas. Here's everything you need to decide which one is right for you.

Bed Kinematics: The Main Difference
The V2.4 uses a "flying gantry" design — the bed stays fixed and the entire gantry moves up and down on 4 Z leadscrews. This gives excellent Z-axis stability and makes the printer more compact vertically. However, it requires precise quad-gantry-leveling (QGL) and 4 independently-driven Z motors.
The Trident uses a fixed gantry with a moving bed — three Z leadscrews (triangle arrangement) lift the bed. This is simpler to build and align, and makes the printer slightly taller. The bed remains more stable during fast XY moves since the heavy gantry isn't being lifted.
Build Complexity
Trident is the easier build. Three Z motors instead of four means simpler wiring, fewer alignment headaches, and lower cost. If this is your first Voron, the Trident is the better choice.
V2.4 is more rewarding. The flying gantry is an engineering marvel and produces exceptional print quality at high speeds. Experienced builders tend to prefer the V2.4 for its elegance.
Print Quality
Both printers produce exceptional quality. At normal speeds (80–150 mm/s), you won't see a difference. At very high speeds (200+ mm/s), the Trident's fixed gantry gives slightly better XY accuracy since the gantry isn't moving in Z.
The V2.4's QGL system ensures a perfectly trammed gantry at every Z height, which is a real advantage for tall prints. The Trident relies on bed mesh compensation for the fixed gantry's alignment.
Which Should You Build?
Choose the Trident if:
- This is your first CoreXY/Voron build
- You want the simplest possible build process
- You're on a tighter budget
- You mostly print functional parts and don't need extreme Z-height consistency
Choose the V2.4 if:
- You want the "full Voron experience"
- You enjoy tinkering and tuning
- You print tall objects regularly
- You want maximum modding potential
- You don't mind the extra cost and complexity
